As a creator do you ever make something that you do not want to be ruined, but is made for everyday use? That is how I felt about the Mother’s Day Mugs I made this year, and that is when the idea for my Alice in Wonderland Mug hit me. I wanted to create a mug that I liked so I would want to keep it, but one that wasn’t so precious to me that I would care if it got ruined. I made this mug as a test mug, but I do have to say I enjoyed how it turned out.

The very first step in making the mug is putting doTerra Lemon Essential Oil on the sticker to make it come off. Then I found a picture of Alice that I liked the shape of, printed it onto cardstock paper, and cut it out. To ensure it stuck well to the mug I used a glue stick all along the back of it, and then I placed the paper where I wanted it on the mug. After making sure all of the edges of the paper were glued down well, I grabbed a small paintbrush, red acrylic paint, and black acrylic paint. I then used the paint to draw the card suits around the picture of Alice to ensure that when I took the paper off, you would be able to see the shape of her still. Next, I scattered the shapes around on the same side as Alice; because I knew I wanted to put words on the other side of the mug. When the acrylic paint dried, peeled the paper off, and touched up any paint that came up with the paper. There were some portions of the paper that stayed because the glue did so well, but a wet washcloth was able to get it off.

Before the mug was complete, I wanted to add words. For adding the letters, I used Acrylic Paint Pens from Amazon. They worked really well, but I did learn if you push too hard, they can catch and splatter, which for Alice in Wonderland it just added to the aesthetic.

The words I put were “In My World…” like Alice says in the beginning. I put this because I am currently striving to live my dreams and create “my world” of being a professional crafter who can provide for my family while getting to spend time with them.

Next, I put the word “Curious” on the handle of the mug, almost as a challenge to myself. The challenge is to keep going and pursuing my dreams no matter how hard or scary it seems.

The very last step to complete the mug is to put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. This step allows the paint to harden and be less likely to come off. As this was my test mug, I did run it through the dishwasher, if any paint came off it was barely any. Now, I have a cute Alice in Wonderland mug to use daily.
