Scrabble Shadow Box

When thinking about a Mother’s Day gift for my Mother-in-law I took into consideration her personality and style. She is a highly structured woman who decorates her house from top to bottom. Though her style is eclectic it pulls together well, and I wanted to gift her something that she would consider putting in her house somewhere. After searching my Pinterest, I found the perfect resolution, see she has several decorations with Scrabble tiles, so why not do a Grandma Scrabble Shadow Box. The inspiration came from many different posts, not just one.

The first thing I needed to do was get the supplies, luckily it only takes a few. I ordered an 8X8 Shadow Box, Confetti, and Scrabble Tiles. I am very grateful for how quickly Amazon delivers; because it does allow me to do these last-minute projects. When the supplies arrived, the fun began. I pulled out the letters to spell GRANDMA. I printed a cute grandma quote centered and halfway down a paper. Then to get completely ready I set out all my supplies (Hot Glue Gun, Scissors, Pencil, etc.).

I do recommend plugging in the glue gun to warm up at this point. The first thing you will need to do is take the back of the Shadow Box out and place it on the paper over the quote so that the quote is centered, low enough to put the scrabble tiles, and high enough that the confetti won’t cover the words. Then, trace the square from the back of the box on the paper using a pencil. If you are having a difficult time finding this alignment with the paper under the square you can put the paper on top to make lines of where you want it to sit before tracing the square onto the paper. Once the square is traced onto the paper, cut it out.

The next step will be to align the GRANDMA tiles the way you want them on the paper. The quote I used was “Grandma, one of the greatest gifts your heart will ever know.” Once all of the Scrabble tiles are aligned how you want them, use the glue gun to stick them onto the paper one at a time. Next, you will glue the paper to the back of the Shadow Box. When doing this I have two recommendations. The first is to make sure you know where the hanging piece is on the back so it will be right side up when hung. The second is when gluing, start in a corner and go slow, smoothing it out as you go. At least with my glue gun, if you try to do the whole paper at one time it will start to cool leaving lines where the glue sits. Once the entire paper is glued down throw the desired amount of confetti into the Shadow Box and put the back on.

I am happy with how this project turned out. For being really simple and only taking about 10 minutes it looks really nice. Please let me know what you think!
