Mom to Grandma

For Mother’s Day, I often like giving gifts showing how little the kids still are. They grow so fast, and I like to document the short period when they are small. Now when I think about Mother’s Day, I consider all of my kid’s grandma’s and myself of course. This year for my mother I decided to recreate an idea similar to the one I saw that was uploaded to Pinterest by Becky Burrow. I loved the idea of saying how I love having her as my mom as well as how happy it makes me that she can be a grandma to my kids. This one was a quick easy project.
On a 14” x 11” canvas I painted the background her favorite color using acrylic paint. Once the paint was dry, I painted my kids’ hands using a sponge brush and acrylic paint. If you decide to do multiple colors like my kids chose, I do recommend using a paintbrush per color, so the paint doesn’t dry or blend when trying to use the same brush. After stamping their hands on the canvas I helped wash their hands before moving on to the next kid.
After all the kids had their handprints on the canvas, I used acrylic paint markers to write the words. Admittedly my handwriting wasn’t the best, and where I didn’t take time to make the lines, they are a bit crooked. If nothing else, it is perfectly imperfect and obviously homemade. Also, it gave me some experience on how to make it better the next time I do a similar project.
